TikTok is a social media app that was designed to allow people to share short videos with friends and followers.
TikTok’s intention is for users to post their everyday lives, their creativity, and their passions.
The platform has grown exponentially in the last few years, which means many more people than expected have access to TikTok and are able to use it as a platform for sharing content.
Unfortunately, TikTok has become one of the most popular places on the internet where trolls can create fake accounts in order to bully real TikTok creators by reporting videos that do not violate any of TikTok’s policies or terms of service.
TikTok does not check if these reported videos are genuine violations before removing them from the site; instead, they just remove them from TikTok and eventually close the account.
It also hasn’t taken any action against these trolls and genuine TikTok users are becoming frustrated by the platform’s lack of protection for creators.
Although TikTok may soon begin to roll out new features to protect TikTok Creators, there are a few things you can do to minimize the damage being done by TikTok trolls reporting your videos falsely.
What are TikTok trolls and what do they do?
TikTok trolls are members of TikTok who make accounts for the sole purpose of reporting videos that do not violate TikTok’s terms and conditions.
There are different types of TikTok trolls; some TikTok trolls report videos because they genuinely believe the video violates TikTok’s terms and conditions, while other Tiktok trolls report videos just to get TikTok users banned or harass them.
Regardless of how these TikTok troll accounts operate, their goal is always the same: to damage your view count, harm your growth pace on TikTok, and ultimately get you banned from TikTok.
Can you get banned on TikTok for reporting someone?
No, TikTok does not ban TikTok users for reporting someone else’s video. TikTok does not monitor TikTok for false reporting of videos either.
Instead, TikTok bans TikTok users by having an automated system that will remove a user’s account when the reports against it reach a certain threshold.
What happens if someone falsely reports you on TikTok?
If TikTok gets enough reports on your account, TikTok will remove your account and any videos associated with it.
This means that TikTok is removing the video even if TikTok does not believe that it violates TikTok’s terms or policies.
How does a person know if someone is trolling by reporting their video?
One of the biggest signs that someone is trolling by reporting your TikTok account is if your TikTok videos start getting taken down without manual review.
If TikTok removes a video from your TikTok account and you know they didn’t violate TikTok’s terms it usually means that somebody reported your video as violating TikTok’s policies.
This is usually followed by a temporary ban from posting on your TikTok account.
How many reports does it take to get banned on TikTok?
It is difficult to give a specific number for TikTok, as it varies depending on the reason the person gave for reporting your account.
However, we can estimate that Tiktok bans account after around 5 to 6 reports from over five different TikTokers.
How do you find out who is reporting your TikTok?
It is extremely difficult to find out who is reporting TikTok accounts. TikTok does not provide users with tools that allow them to contact people who have reported TikTok accounts in the past, even when Tiktok has removed their TikTok account for violating TikTok’s policies.
So unfortunately there is no way to know with 100% certainty which TikTokers are reporting your TikTok account.
What can you do to protect your TikTok account from being banned?
TikTok provides TikTokers with the ability to block Tiktok users. Blocking TikTok trolls is the best way to prevent them from reporting TikTok accounts that do not violate TikTok’s policies or terms of service.
Temporarily keep your account private
Although it may not be 100% effective at preventing trolls, keeping your TikTok account private will keep most TikTok trolls away as they are not interested in following locked TikTok accounts.
Why have TikTok trolls become so prevalent on the platform?
There are many reasons why TikTok trolls have become so prevalent on TikTok, and it’s different from one TikTok troll to the next.
Dr. Mark Griffiths, Professor of Behavioural Addiction at Nottingham Trent University said: “Most people troll others for either revenge, for attention-seeking, for boredom, and for personal amusement.”
They want to take their frustration out on those who are successful, happy, or enjoying life because they can’t.
“I think people troll because they’re insecure in themselves; they want to get a kick out of being negative towards someone else,” said Fatima.
How will TikTok change in order to better protect its users?
TikTok should change in order to better protect TikTok users by lowering the threshold for reporting videos and not automatically removing TikTok accounts that have been reported without human review.
What is TikTok doing to counter trolls?
Tiktok currently doesn’t do much to counter TikTok trolls except for asking the user to let them know if they believe it was a mistake and TikTok would review the account and videos and take appropriate action (if necessary).
In closing, TikTok is a growing platform with millions of TikTokers.
There will always be trolls, so, TikTok should take more action to prevent TikTokers from reporting TikTok accounts that do not violate TikTok’s policies.
