How to Check Who Unfollowed You on Instagram Without an App
This has got to be the safest way to find out who unfollowed you on Instagram: SpamGuard.
We’ve already covered on this blog how to recover Instagram accounts that have been disabled.
Among the many cases of accounts getting disabled that we see, are those that used 3rd-party apps to see who unfollowed them.
Using these apps speeds up the process, but I would still recommend checking without them in order to avoid getting in trouble with Instagram.
This is how you can see who unfollowed you on Instagram without an app:
- Open your Instagram app and go to your profile
- Click on the icon (three lines) on the top right corner
- Go to Settings
- Click on Security
- You’ll then go to Download Data
- Here, you will type in any email that you’d like to receive your data on. It can be any email
- Hit Request Download and wait for Instagram to send you the data
It can take a few minutes to a couple of hours to receive this email and it should look like this:
This next part is best done on your computer.
You’ll download the data (Instagram will prompt you to log in first). The information to download will be in a Zip file.
Open the file and go over to the folder that says ‘followers_and_following‘. Here, there are two files we’re going to open in Google Chrome:
From here, we’ll head over to listdiff.com.
First, select and copy (on your keyboard: Ctrl+A/CMD+A -> Ctrl+C/CMD+C) your followers and paste that in List A.
We’re going to do the same for your following and paste it into List B.
You can now click Compare Lists.
From the results:
- A only: users that follow us
- AՈB: users we follow and also follow us back
- B only: users that are not following us
We’re going to sort that list by selecting Sort A->Z and clicking again Compare Lists.
Now go back to B only to see your unfollowers clustered together.
And that is how you can see who unfollowed you without using an app.
How to Stop Someone Unfollowing You on Instagram
In order to stop someone from unfollowing you on Instagram, there are a few things that you can do.
The first thing to try is to ask them why they’re leaving your account and what it would take for them to stay.
This might seem confrontational but if handled correctly the person will be more willing than ever before to tell you why they unfollowed you.
You may also want to ask them what they think you could do better and how their experience was with your content.
The second way is by sending a message that says something along the lines of, “Hey! I noticed you unfollowed me on Instagram and wanted to let you know why it’s important for me to have people like you around.”
Again it may seem confrontational but it will teach you why they left.
